Libradoluco Athletics ClubLore - Organization Canon

Libradoluco AC

370 OW - 409 OW

Two young members of a local voluntary school sports branch of the Libradoluco Athletics Club, northern Bao-Mou, 401 OW.

The Libradoluco Atlena Solida (translatable from Surin as Freestar Athletics Club) was a public-private top-level and local sports club in northern Bao-Mou in the Cuprien Union.

Competitive, high-end sports had become very popular in the Union, and to measure nations against one another. The club was originally founded as a public institution between two cities on the northern Baovuldian coast in the aim of pooling resources and potential for the training of top-tier athletes, particularly to win the National Sports Competition.

The club achieved some early successes, particularly in the ogre wrestling[1] and running categories. A big part of this success came from attracting established athletes with large funds.

Libradoluco enjoyed free use of the large sports complex owned by one of the cities, which was expanded with a club house, new tracks, and other facilities at the level of national sports. It received One Sport sponsorship for club sportswear in 378.

The club was managed like a company, with a director and executive board, where the parent cities acted as oversight and financiers. It became a free company listed in the Royal stock exchange in 378, with either founding city keeping 30% of the stock and selling off 20% in the first three years. Most of the stock was bought up by two other public entities hoping to support some athletes, and 6% was purchased by the Union Exchequer. The company drew most of its financing from private sponsors and from cities paying to be part of the club's elite recruiting and training program.

The club also diversified into local private sports club and voluntary school sports (usually both combined). The usual structure was a single local club (set up in an association format, electing its own board), receiving funds and equipment and requirements from the central club, but employing their own professionals and managing their own facilities. Almost all local clubs offered various disciplines to adults, forming semi-professional teams who competed up to the regional leagues. Membership fees of participants had to be paid to the central club.

Due to the preexisting close involvement of public authorities, and a desire to democratize sports and coach up the younger generation, these local clubs often additionally offered sports activities for kids tied to the voluntary school programs. The club was so large and well-financed that it pushed out smaller local clubs sometimes, constituting a monopolizing competitor. It notably represented a competitor to the cadets, even wiping out some minor corps before 390 OW.

The club was one of the top three source of athletes in the National Sports Competition. It counted upwards of 200'000 members in 400 OW.

Under the Patriotic Sports Policy, the national government forcefully acquired four top-tier sport clubs, including Libradoluco, in 407. Their aim was to mimic the massive Dwarven state institution of the Team Commonwealth, by centralizing all top athletes and making them train as the National Team. The team was however horribly mismanaged, and there was no plan as for what to do with Libradoluco's local clubs. The central club was finally dissolved and incorporated into the National Team in 409, while local clubs were left to their own devices. The National Team would soon after massively recede because the state lost focus and concentrated on pressing foreign policy issues.
