Whistle of the WavesLore - Culture Canon

297 OW

The Whistle of the Waves, sometimes known as the Immortal Man's Tune, was a brief whistled melody popular among the soldiers of the Grand Empire and later.

Origins

The extraordinary Free Phoenix soldier Alphred Norgenu, more usually known as the Immortal Sea-Man, had a characteristic whistle he was known for among the men of the 15th Territorial Regiment. He used it very casually, even (especially) in moments shortly before an engagement, or when others' spirits were low. The tune became more widely adopted as a symbol of bravery.

The fame of the tune had grown by the time of the anarchist revolution and conflicts in the Free Phoenix, up to now on par with the reputation and stories about the Immortal Sea-Man. But now the tune received an importance of its own, as fighters began humming it is a general symbol of bravery and also pride in their country.

In Culture

After the rise of the Grand Empire, the tune became a general martial tune, often without referring directly back to Alphred's legend.

The tune was present in all Oshmondian human cultures thereon. It was notably picked up by the musical group Turnael in their song Warrior from the Depths.
