State of San MorinLore - Organization Canon
350 b. OW - 321 b. OW
The State of San Morin was a feudal federation on San Morin, in the Archaen ocean.
San Morin's foreign strategy was very conciliatory: it sought to be on friendly terms with its neighbors, including especially Weluche, the Dwarven Empire, and Ochebanian Bamea. It notably barely had a military or army, relying instead on Dwarven ships for protection. Thanks to the island's location, Morinian merchants were swiftly able to dominate the Archaen trade routes.
History
The people of San Morin decided to revolt against the Weluchian government after the Dragon War. The revolt was led by the brightlords, a majority group of militarist nobles who were the direct descendants of the colonial administration. They vowed to take better care of San Morin and its people than Weluche had, and engendered a feudal state relying significantly on nationalism.
The State was invaded by Denise in 321 OW, and incorporated into Denisite Archea.
Political System
Despite having stood under Weluchian rule for over four centuries, Weluche's national government was still based on the colonial administration's system; by that point, it was mostly an alliance of trade and shipwright's guilds. It regularly held councils with the brightlord nobility, but power was no longer centralized in the government's hands; instead, it filled the role of mediator between the landed feudal nobility. When the brightlords decided to secede, these institutions underwent cosmetic changes, including dropping the name and heraldry which was much too similar to Weluche and did not represent the new nation, and continued as before.
National government institutions, which were kept small, as well as the army, were staffed by members of the Order of the Sentinels. This knightly order had earlier been responsible for coordinating various nobles' and orders' militias. The Knights Truth, meanwhile, formed the continuation of the Weluchian Knights Star clergy. Most other knightly orders, including the Knights Welfare and most religious orders, were shared with Weluche.
In a break from traditional five-order society, San Morin made a legal distinction between three social classes: knightly orders, merchants, and commoners.
